Since PERF launched the Integrating Communications, Assessment, and Tactics (ICAT) training in 2016, agencies across 34 states and Canada have taught their officers ICAT. PERF has continually updated the training material by adding new case studies, refining PowerPoint slides, and creating a seventh module, “Step Up and Step In.”

To keep ICAT trainers updated on the latest materials and training practices, PERF is holding an in-person conference and ICAT recertification in San Diego on February 7-8, 2024. At this 2^nd Annual ICAT Conference, PERF and experienced ICAT trainers will share the latest updates to the training program, discuss model fidelity, and ask agencies to share lessons they’ve learned as they’ve implemented ICAT. Importantly, PERF will recertify all officers who have previously attended an ICAT training session, providing them with an updated training certificate. For those who have not yet received ICAT training, PERF and the San Diego Police Department will host a no-cost, day-and-a-half, train-the-trainer session on February 5-6 before the conference.

Agencies should send current ICAT instructors, training academy leaders, and agency leaders to the conference. Both agencies that have already implemented the ICAT training program and those still considering implementation will find this conference beneficial. 

This conference will discuss training strategies and some of the training material for those who have already been trained in ICAT. For those who have not yet received ICAT training, PERF and the San Diego Police Department will host a day-and-a-half, train-the-trainer session on February 5-6 before the conference.

No-Cost ICAT Train-the-Trainer Session

For those who have not had the initial ICAT training, PERF and the San Diego Police Department will host an ICAT Train-the-Trainer session on Monday, February 5 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, February 6 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This session will take place at San Diego Police Academy and will be free for all meeting attendees.
