Wednesday, September 22, 1-3 PM Eastern Time
Due to the cancellation of the in-person portion of the 2021 IACP Conference in New Orleans, PERF will be hosting its fall Town Hall meeting virtually this year. We have a stimulating agenda planned, including:
- A discussion with members of three police departments. This segment will be a little different from anything you’ve seen in previous virtual Town Halls. We’ve asked three police departments – the Baltimore Police Department, the LAPD, and the Louisville Metro Police Department – to have their chief, a member of their command staff, and a couple officers join us via video for a conversation about the pressing issues facing the profession. They’ll discuss changes in violent crime trends; proactive policing and other strategies for addressing violent crime; challenges in hiring and retaining officers; and their thoughts on the future of policing.
- Responding to the U.S. Capitol attack. Robert Contee, Chief of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department, and Tom Manger, Chief of the U.S. Capitol Police, will discuss the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, as well as the protest that will take place at the Capitol this coming Saturday in support of the January 6 rioters. We will ask each chief to talk about how they are meeting these unprecedented challenges and what they see for the future.
- Presentation of PERF’s annual awards. Our Town Hall Meeting will include the presentation of PERF’s Gary P. Hayes Award and Leadership Award.
