ANNOUNCEMENT FOR CHIEF OF POLICE – VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FL 

A national search is underway to attract a high-integrity police executive with strong communications skills and a history of community engagement to lead the Key Biscayne Police Department as its Chief of Police. While performing law enforcement duties for the Village, the new chief will build and sustain productive partnerships with neighboring police and government agencies.

Key Biscayne is a vibrant community located on a seven-mile-long, two-mile-wide barrier island only minutes from downtown Miami. The island is flanked by Miami-Dade County’s Crandon Park to the north, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park to the south, and Biscayne National Park just offshore – attracting millions of visitors annually.  Key Biscayne is a thriving community with a diverse population of old-timers, business leaders, professionals and part-time as well as full-time international residents. Key Biscayne has a population of 12,846 with a median age of 42 and a median household income of $151,310. In 2018, the median property value in Key Biscayne was $1.22M, and the homeownership rate was 71.1%.  

The Key Biscayne Police Department is a 47 member department comprised of 36 sworn and 11 non-sworn positions. The department is responsible for the enforcement of all local and state laws and the investigation of crimes within the city limits. The department members are expected to engage the community using time-tested Community Policing efforts.
