Police Chief The City of Benson, Arizona has an elevation of 3,585 and with a current population of 5,355, is the third largest municipality in Cochise County. Benson is located approximately 45 miles southeast of Tucson, along Interstate 10, SR80, SR90, and the main line of Union Pacific Railroad. Of the county’s seven municipalities, Benson saw the fastest population growth from 2010 to 2020 and growth is projected to continue in coming decades, due primarily to the Villages at Vigneto (a 28,000-home planned community in the city). The Police Department has a FY22 operational budget of approximately $2.7 million and personnel that consists of the Chief, two Sergeants, two Officers/Detectives, 11 Officers, seven communication/support staff in addition to the Animal Control Staff of two. Compensation & Benefits The salary range for this position is $73,128.88 – $109,693.32. Benefits include participation in the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System, health and life insurance, in addition to supplementary life insurance, dental and vision coverage and deferred compensation plans. City-provided vehicle, and annual uniform allowance. Ten paid holidays per year, and comparable vacation and sick leave program.
