Temple, Texas, is ideally situated along the Central Texas technology corridor with San Antonio and Austin to the south, and Dallas and Fort Worth to the north.  A principal city in the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has an estimated population of 428,000, Temple covers 75.15 square miles and offers an exceptional quality of life to approximately 79,286 residents.

Temple is a full-service, home rule city operating under a council-manager form of government.  The Temple City Council is comprised of a Mayor and four Council members.  The City of Temple is looking for an engaging and visionary Police Chief who will lead the Police Department with integrity and passion. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to lead the department in connecting with the community. 

The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in management, criminal justice, or a related field from an accredited college or university.  A master’s degree is preferred.  A minimum of five years of experience in police supervision, with two years at a senior command position (police chief or within 1 or 2 levels in the organization from the chief), is required. The chosen candidate must possess certification through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), or the ability to become certified within six months of the hire date, and must have completed Advanced Law Enforcement Training through the FBI National Academy, Senior Management Institute for Police, or a similar professional program.  The salary range for this position is $145,000 - $175,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
