The Center for Policing Equity uses evidence-based approaches to social justice problems and conducts research to create levers for social, cultural, and policy change. 

 

Position Description


The Senior Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs will lead the Center for Policing Equity’s Compstat for Justice (C4J) Government Affairs and Public Policy team. The Senior Director will develop a strategic public policy vision for the Center’s C4J initiative. This initiative aims to provide law enforcement with tools to reduce racially disparate outcomes within their communities. The Senior Director will define benchmarks and guide C4J interactions with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators, and community-based organizations with the ultimate goal of expanding the C4J program. The Senior Director will bring a demonstrated background in leading major criminal justice policy and program development, implementation, and analysis at all levels of government. The Senior Director should also have extensive experience leading within and across interdisciplinary organizations. This position reports to the Vice President of Law Enforcement and Social Justice Initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Public Policy and Government Affairs team
  • Work with other senior CPE officials to set the strategic direction for the Public Policy and Government Affairs team
  • Develop and implement targeted strategies for expanding C4J
  • Cultivate productive relationships and collaborate with a wide range of constituencies interested in policing and police reform (e.g., federal, state, and local policymakers, justice officials, researchers, and advocates)
  • Assist with the development of recommendations for police accountability reform based on best practices and other research
  • Represent CPE both internally and publicly to promote C4J and CPE’s public policy priorities
  • Assist team members in crafting policy reports and rapid-response documents that are relevant to police reform
  • Work closely with other policy, data, and research teams to find areas of overlap to define shared messages and policy strategies
  • Manage a dynamic team of policy experts, communications specialists, and community organizers

  • Proactive in surfacing problems and finding solutions
  • Passionate about social justice issues

 

 

Other Relevant Qualifications (desired, but not required)

  • Extensive experience leading major criminal justice policy and program development, implementation, and analysis at all levels of government
