Chief of Police – Town of Wethersfield, Connecticut Wethersfield, Connecticut (26,082) is ideally situated four miles south of downtown Hartford and conveniently located on Interstate 91, one of New England’s key Interstate highways. The Town covers 12 square miles and is located in Hartford County, which has a population of 891,720. Residents appreciate its small-town charm and convenient access to major metropolitan areas such as Boston and New York City, all within a two-hour drive of Wethersfield. The Town of Wethersfield is seeking a committed, decisive leader as its successor Chief of Police who is service-oriented and passionate about directing the Town’s law enforcement operations and who actively works to ensure the Town’s trust and confidence in the integrity and effectiveness of the Police Department through community policing practices. Under the general direction of the Town Manager, the Chief establishes and maintains policies for the operation of the Department and is responsible for the overall operation of the Department. The selected candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a closely related field, with a Master’s degree preferred. The candidate must have 10 years of experience as a full-time Police Officer, with a minimum of three years of progressively responsible senior command level experience. Additional professional development and training (e.g., FBI Academy, Northwestern Institute, PERF’s Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), Southern Police Institute, or similar institution) is desired. The selected candidate must currently possess or have the ability to attain State of Connecticut Certification as a Police Officer and can secure and maintain a Connecticut Driver’s License.
