Situated along the Texas-Mexico border and steeped in history, lore has it that the City of Eagle Pass earned its name because the contours of its hills brought to mind the outstretched wings of an eagle. Fast-forward more than 170 years, and the former military outpost and trade destination continues to welcome new residents and visitors with open arms. The seat of Maverick County, the community has grown by more than 7% over the past decade, and its 9.4 square miles are home to more than 28,000 people within a greater metro area of nearly 58,000.

The Police Chief reports directly to the City Manager and is responsible for ensuring the City’s safety and quality of life for residents and visitors alike. The Eagle Pass Police Department is a team of 99 professionals focused on enhancing citizens’ quality of life through enforcing the law, investigating criminal activity, providing crime prevention services, building a strong partnership with other public service agencies and the community, creating avenues for citizen input, and utilizing personnel and resources in the most cost-effective means possible.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, five years of experience as a law enforcement officer, and intermediate certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Experience in a Civil Service environment with a similar or larger size department is preferred.
